Hi All

Not been posting for a while, but really hoping someone can help me.

Beginning of September had a stabbing back pain, doctor gave me antibiotics, didn't clear up but naproxen helped with the pain. I went back to the doctor a couple of weeks ago and since then have had two x-rays, one nulcear scan, one ct scan (today), the second x ray showed the condition had worsened, the consultant and radioologist have assured me 99 per cent that it is not lung cancer (I was convinced it was), it could be fluid on the lung. I am now waiting for an appt to have a camera inserted to pin point the location and to possibly have it drained.

Today I read on a site that one of the causes could be RA. It was this time last year that I had an abcess under the armpit. Could this be due to our immume system?

Hi Anne

This must be such a worry for you. I can't answer your question I'm afraid but you are being well looked after having so many tests. I know it is easy for me to say but try to be positive and wait and see. You are in my prayers.

Hi Anne,

Sorry to hear you are suffering so much.
As far as I know, RA can cause pleurisy, I've only had it once but that was enough!
Also, if we are taking immune suppressive drugs such as mtx it affects our ability to fight off infection.
I hope they can find the cause of your pain soon and treat it.

Love Doreen xx

Hi Anne

Sorry to hear of your problems and hope an answer is soon found for you. RA can cause a number of lung problems. As Doreen says pleurisy is quite a common effect with RA; less frequent manifestations are things like interstitial lung disease, pulmonary vasculitis and rheumatoid nodules. That said the problem may not be directly RA related. It sounds as though you are undergoing thorough checks so you are certainly in good hands. Fingers crossed for a good result.

Let us know how you get on ThumpUp

Hi,

Saw the consultant on Friday, she said I had scarring on the lungs, this is possibly caused by RA, although could be smoking. The problem is not treatable and could stay the same or get worse, and will have another chest x ray in two months. The pain eases with naproxen and I have been prescribed inhalers for the breathlessness.
